UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs in 2026: How the Skilled Worker Route Really Works

Last reviewed: 25 October 2026. Figures come from GOV.UK and a third party summary dated 3 July 2026. Confirm them on GOV.UK before you act.

Many adverts promise easy UK jobs with visa sponsorship. The real route is the Skilled Worker visa. It is open to people who already hold a job offer from a UK employer with a sponsor licence. This guide explains what that means in plain terms and how to check an offer before you spend money.

Quick answer

  • Sponsorship is done by the employer, not by you or an agent.
  • The job must be at an eligible skill level and pay at least the salary threshold for that job.
  • You need a Certificate of Sponsorship from the employer and a valid English language result.
  • No honest employer or agent can guarantee a visa.

Salary rules to know

Under the Skilled Worker route you must usually be paid the higher of a general salary threshold and the going rate for your occupation code. One third party summary of the rules, verified on 3 July 2026, lists the general threshold as £41,700 and the going rate for programmers and software developers (SOC 2134) as £54,700 from 8 April 2026, with a lower new entrant rate of £40,000 in published cases. Because that is a summary, check the current table on the GOV.UK Skilled Worker page.

How to check an employer

  1. Search the employer name on the official Register of Licensed Sponsors on GOV.UK.
  2. Check that the job title and pay match an eligible occupation code.
  3. Ask for the written offer and the Certificate of Sponsorship number before travelling.
  4. Never pay for the job itself. Normal costs are visa fees and the health surcharge, paid to the government.

Red flags and scams

  • Anyone who asks you to pay for a job offer, a permit or a “guaranteed” visa.
  • Adverts with very high pay for beginners, or with no interview.
  • Contact only by WhatsApp, Telegram or a free email address, with no company website or address.
  • Look-alike government sites. Use only the official government website for the country.

If you think you have been targeted, stop paying, keep every message and receipt, and report it to Action Fraud (UK) or the police in your country. You can also email us at admin@jobsbroads.com.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a UK job from my home country?

Yes, if a licensed sponsor hires you. You then apply for the visa from outside the UK.

Does a sponsor licence guarantee my visa?

No. The Home Office still decides each application.
