Scotland uses the same visa rules as the rest of the UK. Immigration is reserved to the UK Government. In 2026 the Scottish Government published proposals for new routes, but those are proposals and not law.
What is proposed
- A Scottish Visa tied to living in Scotland, with no fixed salary threshold.
- A Rural Visa for depopulated communities, possibly as a pilot.
- A Scottish Graduate Visa letting graduates stay up to two more years.
- More flexibility in the existing Skilled Worker salary rules.

Be careful with salary claims
Headlines about earning £24,000 to £70,000 do not describe any visa. Pay depends on the job. The UK National Living Wage for people aged 21 and over is reported as £12.71 per hour from April 2026 in a Money to the Masses article of 26 November 2025. Confirm on GOV.UK.
Red flags and scams
- Anyone who asks you to pay for a job offer, a permit or a “guaranteed” visa.
- Adverts with very high pay for beginners, or with no interview.
- Contact only by WhatsApp, Telegram or a free email address, with no company website or address.
- Look-alike government sites. Use only the official government website for the country.
