Last reviewed: 25 October 2026. Sponsorship availability changes. Confirm on GOV.UK.
Many adverts say UK cleaning jobs come with visa sponsorship. In practice, cleaning roles are usually below the skill level needed for the Skilled Worker route, so be careful.
Quick answer
- The Skilled Worker route requires an eligible occupation at a skill level set by the Home Office.
- If an advert does not name a Certificate of Sponsorship and a licensed sponsor, treat it as unverified.
- Cleaning jobs are open to people who already have the right to work in the UK.
How to check
- Search for the employer on the Register of Licensed Sponsors.
- Ask which occupation code they would use.
- Compare the offered pay with the National Living Wage, reported as £12.71 for those aged 21 and over from April 2026.
Red flags and scams
- Anyone who asks you to pay for a job offer, a permit or a “guaranteed” visa.
- Adverts with very high pay for beginners, or with no interview.
- Contact only by WhatsApp, Telegram or a free email address, with no company website or address.
- Look-alike government sites. Use only the official government website for the country.
